The Silver Room
Passing through the door on the south side of the Landing, along the landing beside the Back Staircase, we come to a door fitted awkwardly in the corner. This appears to be an alteration by Butler. On Soane’s plans, the bedchamber beyond was entered through a lobby on the west side of the Landing through which access was also gained to a dressing room (to the west) and to the Duke’s Room to the north. The bedroom was almost certainly that of the lady of the house (Lady Temple in Soane’s day). It has the characteristic Soane bead cornice and the curved corners to the south mirror those in the Drawing Room below. The fireplace is not original and is probably by Butler.
