The Dining Room

The room which now serves as the Dining Room was designed by Soane to be the bedroom of the master of the house (then Earl Temple). Leading off from it along the front of the house were the Earl’s Dressing Room and a small room presumably for his valet (both now serving as the Kitchen). The fireplace closely resembles that in the Eating Room. Note that the doorway leading from the Dining Room into the Drawing Room is lower on the Dining Room side, continuing the downward progression from the Saloon through to the smaller rooms. There were originally doors opening into the Dining Room in addition to those opening outwards into the other rooms and Hallway in the interests of sound- and fire-proofing.
